Australia is the world’s most successful multicultural nation. But with the housing and cost-of-living crises making headlines, and both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia on the rise, many think it’s time to pull the handbrake on our immigration intake. The recent European elections saw many countries lurch to the right — even among Gen Z — in part because of tensions around immigration. Can Australia continue the current rate of immigration while maintaining social cohesion? Are we scapegoating immigration for other policy failures? Would restricting immigration help or hurt us economically?

Rob Skeffington will moderate a debate between Parnell Palme McGuiness who will argue in favour of reducing our rate of immigration and Emilie Dye who will argue against restrictions on the number of immigrants coming to Australia.
