John is Principal, EconSec Consulting and a non-resident Senior Fellow at the United States Studies Centre. John served as chief of staff to Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Earlier roles include Head of Government Relations, Australia, for Rio Tinto; Deputy CEO Minerals Council of Australia and speech writer to Prime Minister John Howard. John has a PhD in economics from the ANU. His most recent publication is Paradigm Shift: The end of the Washington Consensus and the future of Australian economic statecraft (2025, United States Studies Centre).
