Plenary session two: Cancellation and the culture of contempt: can we ever learn to disagree?
The warriors of woke wage their campaigns of ‘tolerance’ using the weapons of cancellation and contempt to silence their critics. Their aim is to impose on the rest of us an ideology to which, in fact, only a narrow band of elites subscribes who purport to speak for the oppressed and disadvantaged everywhere. What moral habits do we need to cultivate in order to promote a renewed culture of conversation that permits public disagreement with one another? How do we dismantle a culture of contempt and build in its place a culture of tolerance?
