Director, Policy Exchange 

Dean is Director of Policy Exchange, the UK’s most influential think tank, and a Member of the House of Lords (Conservative), where he sits on the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy. 

He joined the think tank in 2005, and ran its security research until becoming Director in 2013. Prior to Policy Exchange, Dean was Chief Editorial Writer of The Daily Telegraph. He also worked as Associate Editor of Spectator and was a Contributing Editor for Prospect magazine. 

He is the author of Himself Alone: David Trimble and the Ordeal of Unionism (Harper Collins, 2004), widely hailed as one of the most authoritative books on the Troubles. 

He has regularly commented on national and international affairs for The Times, Sunday Times and Prospect magazine.
